BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-/-/EN BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:West of Scotland: Coping with a Big Nuclear Accident UID:76 DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION This event is hosted by the South West Nuclear Hub and sponsored by the Institute of Measurement and Control. The Hub provides a focus for nuclear innovation, research and teaching in the south west of the UK.\n\n Public lecture and panel Q&A\n\n Nuclear power can provide the large quantities of carbon-free electrical energy needed to sustain Western living standards. But how should we cope when things go badly wrong? What if an accident causes the core to melt, the containment to fail and large quantities of radioactive fallout are deposited on the surrounding countryside? This is exactly what happened at Chernobyl in 1986 and Fukushima Daiichi in 2011. Philip Thomas, Professor of Risk Management at the University of Bristol, led a multi-university team to tackle this thorny issue head on. You may find their research results surprising. He and his team will be on hand to answer questions afterwards. You can read more about the project here: http://www.nrefs.org/\n\n Panel: Prof. Philip Thomas, Dr Paul Johnson, Prof. Bill Nuttall, Dr Ian Waddington\n\n Event details\n\n Venue: Pugsley Lecture Theatre, Queens Building, University of Bristol Time: 18:00 - 19:30 Light refreshments will be provided afterwards Find out more information and register on Eventbrite DTSTART:20171120T180000Z DTEND:20171120T200000Z LOCATION:University of Bristol END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
