Synopsis:

The implementation of effective functional safety is valuable in ensuring that Safety instrumented Systems (SIS) are fir for purpose and provide the appropriate level of integrity. As detailed in BS EN 61511 there are a number of Functional Safety Assessments (FSAs) required as part of the Safety Lifecycle, with their aim to provide an independent judgement on the specification, design validation and operation of the SIS. Over the recent years Sella Controls have completed various FSAs for applications such as ESD, Tank Overfill, HIPPS, and Burner Management Systems.

This presentation will explore Sella Controls’ experience in Stage 2 Functional Safety Assessments that cover the design and realisation phase of the lifecycle. It will also focus on findings in software application development, SIL verification and Factory Acceptance testing and will highlight common issues, good practise and areas of development.

Lecturer: Ian Dolan, Sella Controls
